International Trends and Services

The International Trends and Services  Facet continues the Links' commitment to improving the lives and livelihoods of people throughout the US, the Caribbean and the African continent. We participate in the Maama Kit Campaign, a part of the World Health Organization and The Links' Safe Motherhood Initiative, purchasing “Maama Kits” to help alleviate the problem of neonatal mortality.

Chapter members and friends collected books, educational supplies, and school bags, which were sent to our sponsored schools in Haiti and Belize. Learning about the clean water crisis in Haiti inspired our Water Education Project, 2005-2006.

For 2006-2007, our focus changed a bit, to literacy, as a part of the chapter's Umbrella Project, Links to Literacy. Connecting literacy efforts to our select schools in Belize, Haiti and now, Monrovia, Liberia, we worked to encourage better reading and more writing in our children here in Wilmington, as well as our children in Africa, the Caribbean and Central America.
